How do I add/update Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods on my Microsoft Account?

Answer

To add/edit your MFA methods follow the below steps.

Setting up MFA for First-Time Use

STEP 1 - Log in to My Apps Portal

Please visit https://myapps.microsoft.com, type in your YCCD email address, and click Next.

 Type in your YCCD email password and click Sign in.

Click Don’t show this again and click Yes if you would like to reduce the number of times you have to sign in.

STEP 2 - Set up Multi-factor Authentication Methods (MFA)

Click Next if you see the following screen:

Click on I want to set up a different method and select Phone

STEP 2a - Phone Method - REQUIRED FOR MFA AND TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD

If you select the PHONE method, you should see the following page:

After you input your phone number and select Text me a code or Call me, you will receive a code via text or voice.

After receiving the code and entering it into the Enter code area, click Next.

Click on Done on the following page

STEP 2b - Email Method - ONLY REQUIRED FOR PASSWORD RESETS

If you select the EMAIL method, please follow the below steps:
You should now see the following screen, where you will click I want to set up a different method.

After clicking Email, you will be asked to input your personal email address (NON-YCCD email).  Click Next.

A code will be sent to your personal email address.  Type in the code and click Next.

Click on Done on the following page

You’re all done!

OPTIONALLY REQUIRED FOR MFA AND TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD:

If you would like to use the Microsoft Authenticator or other Authenticator app as a MFA method, then follow the steps below:

Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the Apple App Store (for Apple iPhone) or Google Play Store (For Android phones).

After installing the app on your phone, Click Next.

Click Next to go to the next page.

Open your authenticator app on your phone, scan the QR code below, and then Click Next.

The authenticator app should successfully add your work or school account without requiring any additional information from you.  Approve the notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app, and then select Next

Your security info is updated to use the Microsoft Authenticator app by default to verify your identity when using two-step verification or password reset.

Add/Edit MFA Methods (for already enrolled users)

Select the tile Setup Multi-factor Methods and...

Select Add sign-in method

Choose a method from the drop-down list for instance: Phone

After you input your phone number and select Text me a code or Call me, you will receive a code via voice or text.

After receiving the code and entering it into the “enter code” area, click next.

A message will appear after it is successfully registered.

You can reset your password @ https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/ 

If you receive an error or cannot get into your account, please call the help desk (530.741.6981) during office hours (8-5 | M-F) so we can verify your identity and reset your password if necessary.
