📘 What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Coding) is a modern image format introduced by Apple with iOS 11. It uses advanced compression to reduce file size while maintaining high image quality. HEIC is the default format for photos taken on iPhones and iPads.  While Windows 10 and 11 support HEIC to some extent, it is recommended to convert these files to JPEG (because it's a more widely used format and is compatible with windows devices).
 

✅ How to Convert HEIC to JPEG on Apple Devices

📱 On iPhone or iPad

Option 1: Change Camera Settings to Save Future Photos as JPEG

1. Go to Settings > Camera > Formats.
2. Select Most Compatible.
   • This will save future photos as JPEG instead of HEIC.

Option 2: Convert Existing HEIC Photos

1. Open the Photos app.
2. Select the HEIC photo you want to convert.
3. Tap the Share icon.
4. Choose Mail or Messages.
5. Send the photo to yourself.
   • The image will be automatically converted to JPEG during the transfer.

Alternatively:

• Use Files app or Shortcuts app to create a custom automation that converts HEIC to JPEG.

💻 On Mac

Option 1: Use Preview

1. Open the HEIC file in Preview.
2. Go to File > Export.
3. Choose JPEG as the format.
4. Save the file.

Option 2: Use Photos App

1. Import the HEIC image into the Photos app.
2. Select the image and go to File > Export > Export Photo.
3. Choose JPEG as the format and export.

• If you receive HEIC files often, ask senders to use JPEG format or convert before sending.
